Neiman Marcus Friends and Family Sale

Neiman Marcus is having their very first Friends and Family sale. Take 20% off your in store and online purchase of any regular-priced purchase, though there are some exclusions. Use code FRIENDME. I noticed that while the details for the promo are kind of fuzzy on what merchandise is excluded, it might be based on brands. For instance, I tried applying the promo on a Chloe and Burberry bag and it wouldn’t take the discount off. The sale goes through today.

If Neiman decides to do this again, I’d love to see less exclusions. Typically Friends and Family sales are on nearly everything in the store. While I realize that sometimes certain brand agreements prohibit this, it would be nice to see that beauty is not unilaterally excluded and more premier designers are participating.

Neiman Marcus online $50 off $200 purchase until Friday

Neiman Marcus has a new coupon out.  I haven’t seen this one before so I thought it was worth mentioning if you have a ~$200 purchase to make.  It’s a straight $50 off your regular price purchase with code JAN50.  Online only until Friday.

Here’s the fine print:

*Offer valid online only. To receive $50 off, enter the promo code JAN50 in the promotion code box in your shopping bag during checkout. The value of your select regular-priced order must total $200 before shipping and tax. Does not apply to Beauty purchases, previous purchases, wedding registry items, NM Gift Card® purchases, catalog orders, Bergdorf Goodman®, Last Call®, CUSP®, or with any other discount offer. Neiman Marcus employees are not eligible for offer. One discount per customer. Other exclusions may apply. Ends 01/18/14 at 6 AM CT.

I have been waiting for a deal like this and I just bought the Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Natasha in Taupe!

Psst. Can I just mention how I love that the coupon code actually specifies the end time for the coupon being 6am Central time Saturday so that even Hawaiian residents have until the end of day Friday to redeem?  I live on the west coast and I can’t tell you how many times coupons have expired at 9pm pacific time for us!  So yay Neimans 🙂

Neiman Marcus Deals – Combining Amex Sync and Gift Card Deals

Neiman Marcus is currently doing a tired gift card event where you will receive a gift card depending on how much you spend on regular priced merchandise if you use the code GC4YOU at checkout.

You can combine this gift card event with the American Express Sync offer that I talked about in the previous post.

So for instance, you could get this beautiful Rafe Joey Mini Leather Tote which is regularly priced at $225 for $175+tax and also receive a $50 gift card towards your next purchase.  This effectively takes it down to $125 if you are a regular Neiman shopper.

Or you could get a pair of classic Tory Burch Revas which hardly ever go on sale.  They are regularly priced at $225 so again, you could get them for $175+tax and receive a $50 gift card for next time, effectively taking it down to $125, but only if you shop at Neiman’s regularly.

As for me, I’m still drooling over my dream bag… the Chloe Marcie. I’ve been obsessed for months but I still haven’t been able to pull the trigger.

Chloe Marcie – Isn’t it beautiful? 🙂

Since this purse is $1950, I would find something to add to my order to take it up to $2000 so that I qualify for the $500 Neiman Marcus gift card.  Since I don’t shop at Neiman’s that often, I’m not sure how useful a $500 gift card would be for me.  Now if only they were taking $500 off the purchase price instead… A girl can keep dreaming right? 🙂

Rebecca Minkoff Baby Bag Reviews – Kendra and Logan Diaper Bags

I was in Neiman Marcus last week and I stopped by the children’s section to take a peek at what was new and I found 2 new Rebecca Minkoff baby bags there that I haven’t seen before.  Here’s some quick thoughts after close examination of the Kendra and the Logan.

Btw – Neiman Marcus is currently running a promo through August 19th on children’s purchases.  With the code KIDSGIFT, you will get $50 off your $200 purchase!  What great timing for these brand new bags!

The Rebecca Minkoff Kendra Baby Bag

First up is the Kendra baby bag.  This bag was made of nylon and includes a change pad.  When I saw the bag last week, it wasn’t up on the Neiman website yet so I think it is brand new.  Nordstrom also carries this bag in a plain black nylon, also for $295.

I liked that the bag had a top zipper to keep items inside from falling out.  I also love the elasticized and non-elasticized pockets that Rebecca Minkoff puts on all her baby bags. They are laid out in the same way as the Knocked Up bag.  If I remember correctly, there is a horizontal zip pocket across the back and 4 pockets on the inside.  There are also 2 exterior side pockets and an exterior horizontal zip.  Because the bag is made from nylon, it is easy to wipe clean and it makes it very lightweight.

I didn’t love the size of the bag.  The website lists it as 13 1/2″H x 17 1/2″W x 7″D and I just thought that the 7″ depth of the bag wasn’t enough.  It just seems too narrow.

What initially drew me to this bag was the leather trim.  You really don’t see too many baby bags that have any leather, which is too bad… because while nylon is very practical, I think leather is more durable.

The straps shown are just faux, as the closure is actually a magnet behind them.  At first, I didn’t realize this and struggled to get the strap out and thought “this diaper bag is useless if I can’t get anything out of it!”.  Thankfully, the designers realized that a magnetic closure was much more practical for Mommies and Daddies!

The bag also includes a change pad and has multiple wall pockets.  If I remember correctly, they were in exactly the same configuration as the Kendra bag.  There are also 2 exterior bottle pockets.  What I really like about this bag is that it has a long strap.  I find those to be so essential when you are trying to juggle your diaper bag, the car seat and open doors. When the car seat weighs about 10 lbs and your baby is 15 lbs… you start needing 2 hands to lift the carrier.  You really start to appreciate the long cross-body straps during those times!  The bag also has a hook closure for keeping it together, though I suspect things could still fall out even if the top flap is folded over.

I would say the size is the main negative for me.  I prefer a larger bag and this one was a smaller bag with dimensions listed as 13″W x 12″H x 7″D.

Here’s a comparison on the same model.
